1.1 Background of the Study
Urbanization is a global phenomenon characterized by the growth of cities and towns, often accompanied by challenges such as inadequate housing, environmental degradation, unemployment, and social inequality. In Nigeria, rapid urbanization is evident in regions like Jalingo North Local Government Area, where population growth has outpaced infrastructure and services (Abdullahi & Yusuf, 2023). Hausa films, as cultural products with significant reach and influence, have the potential to address urbanization challenges by raising awareness, educating the public, and advocating for sustainable practices (Usman & Aliyu, 2024). These films often portray the realities of urban life, highlighting issues such as poverty, housing shortages, and environmental management while offering potential solutions. This study evaluates the effectiveness of Hausa films in addressing urbanization challenges in Jalingo North, focusing on their content, audience reception, and impact on public discourse.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Urbanization in Jalingo North has led to numerous challenges, including overcrowding, waste management issues, and unemployment. Despite efforts by local authorities to address these problems, public awareness and engagement remain limited. Hausa films, as an accessible and culturally relevant medium, have the potential to bridge this gap but remain underutilized in addressing urbanization challenges (Ibrahim & Musa, 2023). This study seeks to explore the effectiveness of Hausa films in promoting awareness and encouraging action on urbanization-related issues in Jalingo North.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study underscores the potential of Hausa films as a medium for addressing urbanization challenges in Northern Nigeria. By examining their content and impact, the research contributes to efforts to use media for social advocacy and public education. The findings are valuable to filmmakers, urban planners, and policymakers working to address urbanization issues.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on the effectiveness of Hausa films in addressing urbanization challenges in Jalingo North Local Government Area, Taraba State. It examines specific films with urbanization themes and their impact on local audiences.
